Description
Great Blue Heron image captured on Sanibel Island, Florida, USA as he was flying into the dark mangroves. I darkened the background somewhat so the mangroves are not visible, but otherwise, this image is not doctored in any other way, even though it gives that appearance. I love how it brigs out the detail under the heron's wings - a sight not often frozen in time for us to
marvel at.

Ginger Stein replied:
Than you Sharon. I'm always concerned that viewers will think this was an image transferred to a black background. - it was not. I was shooting along a canal since I don't have the really long lenses needed to shoot birds from a distance. I heard this heron burst out of the bushes and luckily had my camera on proper settings to capture it. It flew directly into thick dark tangled mangrove trees which I only needed to darken slightly to make them disappear.
