Description
Antietam battlefield and cemetery are imbued with history, as well as the stories of men on both sides who fought for their beliefs, their comrades. The fields are strewn with the souls of tens of thousands who were injured or died on these acres. All that blood, all those stories, all those sons, fathers, brothers who died - and for what on that day? Historians say its difficult to say whether the Blue or Gray won that day. But both sides made a huge sacrifice. My husband and I spent two days here walking among those ghosts...you can feel them here. The church, farms, corn fields they charged through, overtook, lost are still here. Antietam National Battlefield is a National Park Service protected area along Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Washington County, northwestern Maryland. It commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam that occurred on September 17, 1862
