One of the great things aobut where I live (Florida) is that we get to enjoy the big wading birds all year round. This particular one was actually in my own backyard - which happens to be on a lake opposite a small preserve. Some are skittish, but others that habituate areas where there are people around will let you get fairly close as long as you move quietly and slowly,
